Nothing needs to be added - sometimes fewer is better...

By deleting words from the newspaper header, the player can fabricate a story from the remnants of another. A header within a header, a story within a story, a narrative within a narrative... The possibilities are truly endless.

Tutorial:

Click on the words to censor them out in the headline of tomorrow's newspaper! Different ways to edit the title would result in different results and multiple endings. For instance, "WE WON'T SURRENDER" becomes "WE SURRENDER" after censoring out the "WON'T". Remember that information, it will eventually come in handy. :)

Pay particular attention to the narrator: How trustworthy is he? Is it better to follow his advice and cover up for the government? Disobey him to empower the people? Or is there some *other* choice that is being kept from you? (Hint: There are only so many events he can tease you with)

Finally, the game is not bug-free. E.g. The word elements are of fixed characters long so the last few characters may disappear. However, we see great potential in the core mechanics of this game.

Description:

Welcome to the dark ages of the information manipulation society. In the newsroom, 'truth' is just a toy and you, my dear puppeteer, are getting ready to pull the strings - ready? Be careful, be patient, each choice may have unintended consequences - the choice is yours.

"You did it! You're still fighting for the truth, just like you always have!"

"I read your latest piece. It was brave, honest - exactly what we need right now."

Hear, hear! High and mighty, strutting around like a peacock, flaunting his virtues! Is he really a saint?

In his naive eyes, news is truth - how silly!

But imagine: the authoritative news in the eyes of the populace is now your skillfully edited canvas - and, remember, you're not just a passive recipient of the story! Every choice is a stitch in your unique story. How will you spin the thread today? Will you cloak the world in a veil of deception - or will you uncover it to reveal the naked truth?

Pick up a pen! Let's see what kind of havoc you'll cause ......

Background

This game is inspired by Stanley's Parable and The Contrarian Press. To be more specific, we enjoyed the idea of manipulating article titles but felt there was a story element missing, so we added in a witty narrator to interact with the player and provide some tension.

We hand-drew all artistic assets, wrote up all the dialogues, got a talented voice actor to voice the Narrator, and wrote more than 1700+ lines of code - all from scratch during the 72 hours of the Game Jam. Our team is super proud of bringing all these assets into being!
